After breakfast, our guide will collect you from your hotel and accompany you to the airport. The short flight to Bhadrapur takes us over the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding hills and through some of Nepal’s famous mountains. On arrival in Bhadrapur, we drive to Fikkal/Kanyam, the heart of the tea plantation area of the country.

Drive northeast to Taplejung, the official start of the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek. Roads are mixed surface, sometimes narrow and prone to landslides. The journey passes rolling hills, terraced farmlands, and cardamom villages. Taplejung has more developed infrastructure—hotels, shops, hospitals, and ATMs. The region is culturally Limbu, with traditional temples and intricately carved wooden houses. Altitude is below 2,000 m, helping with acclimatization.

Start of the trek. Trail descends from Taplejung to Tamor River Valley, following Ghunsa Khola upstream. The path has steep sections, stone steps, and minor ascents through subtropical forests and rural villages. You enter the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, crossing suspension bridges and walking along rivers and cliffs. Sekathum offers basic teahouse facilities with limited electricity and weak mobile signal.
Amjilosa: 2510 m / 8235 ft – 7 hrs

Steep ascent along Ghunsa Khola through bamboo and rhododendron forests. Trail has suspension bridges and cliffside sections. Wildlife includes langurs, Himalayan monals, and possibly red pandas. Small teahouse village with basic rooms. Evening temperatures can drop significantly.
Gyabla: 2730 m / 8956 ft – 4 hrs

Option to fly direct to Kathmandu or Biratnagar, otherwise drive 8-10 hours to Bhadrapur. Route passes Phidim, Ilam, and Fikkal. Landscape transitions from Himalayan foothills to flat plains. Road mostly black-topped after Phidim.

Packing the right gear makes a big difference to your trekking experience. To keep things easy and comfortable, one porter is assigned for every two trekkers. Each porter carries a maximum of 22 kg, so the luggage allowance is 11 kg per trekker.
We recommend sharing a duffle bag (60+ liters) with your trekking partner for porter use. You should also carry a small daypack (20–30 liters) for valuables, documents, water, and daily essentials. Any extra luggage can be securely stored at your hotel free of charge during the trek.

Note: We can provide a used (non-waterproof) duffle bag, down jacket, and sleeping bag if you do not have your own.
